Letter to NEST+m Students & Families from Mark Berkowitz, Week of October 31, 2016

Dear NEST+m Students & Families,
As we enter the week of October 31st:
October 31st is a regular instructional day. Students may wear festive attire as long as it is appropriate for our K-12 school setting.  As a guideline, think “Happy” Halloween and what is appropriate to wear on any other day within our K-12 learning environment.
Please note that masks, sunglasses and any other items that cover one’s eyes and face are prohibited. In alignment with the NYC Department of Education Discipline Code and Bill of Student Rights, real or fake weapons are also, and always, prohibited.
NEST+m Spirit Week festivities continue on Tuesday through Friday:

Get ready to show your NEST+m pride! A different theme for each day of Halloween week!

  • Monday: Halloween

  • Tuesday: Stripes Day

  • Wednesday: Pajama Day

  • Thursday: Decades Day– Come dressed in clothing from your favorite decade. 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s… it’s your choice

  • Friday: NEST+m Spirit Day— Come to school dressed in purple, or coordinate with your NEST+m athletic team or club! Students may also twin with a friend, group of friends or teacher.

Midterm Assessments (Marking Period 1 Summative Assessments) for Grades 9-12 students begin during the week of October 31st.  For all families, please view PupilPath (Grades 6-12) or be in touch with your child’s teacher (Grades K-5) if you have specific questions about academic performance to date.
Open School “Week” extends from Monday November 14th to Wednesday November 16th (specific details have been sent to families via email), with Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday November 17th (evening- 4:45pm – 7:45pm) and Friday November 18th (afternoon- 12:40pm – 2:40pm). More information is forthcoming.
Thank you for your ongoing support and communication.
